I came across an article in the Guardian from August 2014 which talked about the money paid to professional composers for their work.
It made sobering reading: The average commission for a musical piece was under £1400 and a quarter of respondents didn't consider commission to be a significant part of their income. Given the not-insignificant amount of time invested in writing a piece of music, this does make me wonder what the future holds for music creation.
